  • Henry IV

    Ruled: 1589-1610
    1. Involved in the French Religious Wars, barely escaping assasination.
    2. Unusual amount of religious tolerance.
    3. First monarch of the Bourbon monarchy.
    4. Considered a traitor by Protestants and an upser by Catholics, he was victim of 12 assasination attemps, and later was assasination. Grade C because he managed to make both religioud, Protestants and Catholics, angry with him. He also survived 11 assasination attempts.
  • Louis XIII

    Ruled from 1610-1620
    1. Became king at the age of 9.
    2. He relied heavily on his chief ministers.
    3. His mother was Regent until 1917 although he bacame of age in 1614.
    4. He was nicknamed "The Just" Grade C because his mom was in charge for most of his reign.

  • Louis XIV

    Ruled from 1643 until his death.
    1. Was the longest monarch in European history, after ruling 72 years and 110 days.
    2. Fought 3 major wars: Franco- Dutch war, War of the League of Augsburg, and the War of the Spanish Succession.
    3. He also was ruler during 2 lesser conflicts.
    4. He was succeeded by his 5 year old great-grandson. Grade B because he ruled for a long time, but also participated in 5 battles.
  • Louis XV

    Ruled: 1715 until his death.
    1. Returned the Austrian Netherlands
    2. Ceded New France in North America to Spain and Great Britain at the conclusion of the Seven Year's War
    3. People believed he damaged the power of France
    4. Made France more vulnerable to distrust and destruction, which happened in the Revolutionary War Grade C because he was very passive and tried to please other countries instead of causing a war.
  • Louis XVI

    Ruled: 1774-1792
    1. Tried to reform France based on Enlightenment Ideals.
    2. Increased tolerance towards non- Catholics.
    3. During the Civil International War, he was arrested and suspended from rule.
    4. Found guilty of high treason, he was executed in 1793. Grade D because he stayed with the times and tried to reform to Enlightenment Ideals, but was convicted of treason.
  • Louis XVII

    Ruled: Was never officially king
    1. Was imprisoned from the time his father was executed until his death.
    2. Was made to curse his family name.
    3. Forced to work as an assistant to a brutal cobbler.
    4. His body has never been found after he died at the age of ten of tuberculosis. Grade B because he worked really hard even after his father's execution.
