    2,500 French troops invaded Vietnam on August 31st of 1858 at Tourane. This was so that France could protect French missionaries and other nationals there .The French fortified a place to surrender against the fortress that commanded the city and captured it on September 12th. Later Vietnam laid siege against the French garrison the put in the citadel, it lasted a year. During the time 900 French men died in battle or were killed off by diseases.     The Communist Party was founded by Ho Chi Minh on the 3rd of February in 1930, in Hong Kong by a group of Vietnamese exiles. Ho Chi Minh found the Vietnamese Communist Party but he renamed it the Indochinese Communist Party. He did this to end the French rule. Ho found the Vietnamese Communist Party but he renamed it the Indochinese Communist Party. During this the Nghe-Tinh Soviet revolt , this was when the villagers took poverty from the unpopular landlords and reduced rents and taxes.

    Ho Chi Minh started to realize that the US was becoming more anticommunist. On November 11th, 1945 the CPI started to dissolve itself and they would be replaced by the Indochinese Marxist Study Society. Viet Minh claimed the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in Hanoi. This led to a war which lasted eight years and completed the siege of Dien Bien Phu. This was important because the ICP was dissolved and there was independence in Vietnam.

    In November of 1946 the French attacked Vietnam in Haiphong. The French attacked to take over and because they were against the colonial power .They killed about 6,000 civilians. This caused Ho Chi Minh to start a war with the French. This was important because it was the first time Indochina war and the Chinese communism fell shortly after in 1949.

    On March 13, 1954 the Viet Ming attacked the French in Dien Bien Phu. During this the destroyed the French operations center and the killed the commanding officers there. The French tried to fight with the Communists troops Viet attacked even more and had no chance of winning. This lead to a peace treaty, signed in Geneva on July 12. This is important because the French were attacked and they didn’t win but were able to come to a peace treaty.

    In July of 1965 200,000 American troops arrived in Vietnam, but by 1968 it increased over 536,000. The Americans had many advantages. Some of the advantages were that they had modern weapons and good trained military force. They tried to get Vietnam to surrender by bombing raids and doing search and destroy missions. Their bombing were up to 226,000 in 1967. This event was important because it to an agreement between both enemies.

    Ho Chi Minh died on the 2nd of September in the year 1969. In his honor the capital of Vietnam was names after him. The president, Richard Nixon, took charge in his place. During this he claimed Vietnam “unwinnable” and he began to throw out U.S troops. This was an important even because the leader of Vietnamese and founder of the ICP, died and U.S troops were being taken out of the city.

    On January 27, 1973 a peace agreement was signed in Paris. The U.S was allowed to return to America and was out by March. Also 150,000 Southern Vietnam soldiers were allowed to stay in North Vietnam. This war also cost a lot of money for the U.S after all the bombing and weapons. This was an important event because the U.S had finally come to an agreement with Vietnam.
