General Jeffrey Amherest captured Louisbourg. This was important because the British government realized that with the Fortress of Louisbourg under French control, there was no way that the Royal Navy could sail down the St. Lawrence River for an attack on Quebec unmolested. They needed to take control of that fort so they could attack louisbourg and control all the shipping routes to cut off the French supplies. -
Johnson's soldiers capture Fort Niagra
Johnson's English soldiers and Iroquois capture Fort Niagra. this was im portant because it was part of a campaign to remove French control of the Great Lakes and Ohio Valley regions. If they did this it would be making possible a western invasion of the French province of Canada in conjunction with General James Wolfe's invasion to the east. -
