Major George Washington along with his men were sent to the Ohio region to try to get the French to leave the area. He was also trying to convince the native people that England was the stronger force so that they would ally with the British. The French overwhelmed Washington and his men. War was not yet declared, but this was one of the attacks that led to the war.

A British patrol led by George Washington killed Ensign de Jumonville and a third of his escort. This caused the French and the Indians to attack Fort Necessity. George Washington surrendered after one third of his men were killed.

The British fought to take Fort Beauséjour and put the Isthmus of Chignecto in British control. The Isthmus of Chignecto is the only only way between Quebec and Louisbourg during the winter months. This is why it was so important to the French that they control it.

French army reinforcements arrived in New France led by Major General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm and seconded by Chevalier de Lévis and Colonel François-Charles de Bourlamaque. These men were all experienced veterans. Shortly after these reinforcements arrived, the British declared war.

The Treaty of Easton is signed with the chiefs of 13 different Native American nations. These Native American nations agreed to ally with the British in the French and Indian War. Because they allied with the British the governments of Pennyslvania and New Jersey agrreed to let the Native Americans have rights to hunting grounds and settlements in the Ohio Country.

The British raided Montreal and won the battle. This resulted in the French losing their last hold in Canada. This also ended the fight in North America.

The French were forced to hand over all of her American possessions to the British. This also ended the European Seven Years War. This was the end of the French and Indian War.
