  • Charles Perkins

    Charles Perkins and Jim Spigelman led 28 others on a 14 day, 2300 kilometre bus tour or rural New South Wales. The tour got its inspiration from activists in the American Civil Rights movement.
  • First stop of the Freedom Ride

    The first stop of the Freedom Ride was in Orange. A day after they departed.
  • Walgett

    Walgett was from the 14th- 16th of Feburary.This is wear Aboriginals were refused entry. Even ex servce men who served in WWI and WWII.
  • Moree

    The tour was at Moree on the 16th, 17th and the 20th of feburary. Tjis is where by law the Aborigines wre not allowed to use local artesian baths and swimming pool.Charles Perkins brought more children from the reserve. the manager refused to sell them entry coupons, saying 'darkies not allowed in'. A large crowd gathered and after an hour the manager, four police and the local mayor came up with an idea that Aboriginal children could come in as long as they were 'clean'.

    After Moree was Boggabilla, Inverell, Glen Innes, Tenterfield, Stranthorpe, Warwick, Grafton, Ballina, Lismore, Coffs Harbour, Bowraville, Kempsey, Port Maquarie, Taree, Newcastle, Wyong, Gosford, Woy Woy and then back to Sydney.
