    The Communist Manifesto
A pamphlet written by Frederick Engels and Karl Marx for the Communist League. The two philosophers put forth many ideas related to capitalism and class struggles within society. But as far as its significance in the philosophy of science is this idea that history of society is tied to class struggles, the opening line is "the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles." Dialectics of Nature

A collection of writings by Engel's written over an approximately 13-year period. It contains many of Engel's ideas as they pertain to science. It goes into dialectical thought which "is only the reflection of the motion through opposites which asserts itself everywhere in nature" (Engels). He applies this idea of Dialectics to a variety of sciences and society. Engels, Frederick. Dialectics of Nature. Moscow: Progress Publishers, 1934
  • The Part played by Labour in the Transition from Ape to Man

The Part played by Labour in the Transition from Ape to Man
Unfinished work of Engels written in 1876. I included this to show Engels interest in applying his philosophical concepts to science. One of the things he proposed in this work was the idea that human evolution the driving factor for other human development. Engels, Frederick. The Part played by Labour in the Transition from Ape to Man. Moscow: Progress Publishers, 1934.
  • Ant-Duhring

    Ant-Duhring
Engels published the book Anti-Duhring. This book was a response to Eugen Duhring's ideas about socialism and an expansion of Engels' ideas on Marxism. This book is a good example of comparing two competing theories through a critical examination of this new socialist theory (Engels) Engels, Frederick. Herr Eugen Duhring's Revolution in Science (Anti Duhring). London: Lawrence & Wishart, 1934.
