HARVEY GIRLS
Fred Harvey replaced all male staff after a midnight brawl with his waiters in Raton, New Mexico. Harvey took advise and hired only female waitresses. Although, he didn't hire just any woman. Fred Harvey was one of the first to hire only "good character" girls, they also had to have a high school education. These young ladies had too be refined, and trained in etiquette. -
HOTEL
Fred Harvey purchased the Clifton Hotel in Florence Kansas for $5,370. -
SUCCESS
By this time 15 Harvey Houses were operational along the Santa Fe Railroad. -
Dining Car
The Santa Fe Railway starts to including dining cars on some of its trains, leaving Fred Harvey with the contract for its food services. -
DEATH
When Fred Harvey passed away, he left the company to his son, Ford Ferguson Harvey and his son-in-law, John Frederick Huckel. At his death the Harvey Trading Company had 26 restaurants, 16 hotels/restaurants, and 20 railroad dining cars. -

A Harvey House opened in Ash fork, along route 66. -
EL PASO
A Harvey House opened in El Paso, Texas. -
INDIAN DETOURS
The Harvey Indian Detours were a way for people to get off the train to see culture and architecture the west and Native Americans had to offer. The guides of these tours were basically Harvey Girls called "Couriers." -
