  • Murder of lesbian activist Eudy Simelane

    "The ferocity of the attack became clear in April last year when Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa's national female football squad, became one of the victims. Miss Simelane, and equality rights campaigner and one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian, was gang-raped and brutally beaten before being stabbed 25 times in the face, chest and legs."   • The rape of 11-year-old Ntombizanele

    "Tears stream down 11-year-old Ntombizanele's face and drip on to the coarse blue wool of her school uniform. Raped by two local teenagers, Ntombi suffered physical and mental wounds that were exacerbated by the treatment she received from the police and neighbours. Ostracised by friends in the large South African city of Port Elizabeth, Ntombi has since been threatened with further violence by her attackers." (The Independent)
  • Mentally disabled teenage boy raped in Soweto

    "Police say, a mentally disabled teenage boy who was allegedly raped by two young women in Soweto, is still receiving treatment after the incident. The two allegedly drugged the boy, before they raped him in April. A 28-year-old woman was released on bail, while the teenager accused has been released into the care of her parents. The 17-year-old was abducted and kept as a sex slave.The incident was caught on video, which went viral, throughout the country." (Eyewitness News)

  • 100-year-old woman raped in the Eastern Cape

    "Preliminary investigations are being conducted into the rape of a 100-year-old woman in the Eastern Cape, police said on Friday. A man was taken in for questioning in King Williams town on Monday, but was released pending the results of forensic tests. The partially blind woman was allegedly at her home in Holela Village on Saturday. The man had not been charged." (News24)
