Technically a second-generation PDA, the PalmPilot was released by Palm, founder Jeff Hawkins, who is also credited with the invention of the PalmPilot. The true spiritual predecessor of modern cell phones, PalmPilots could sync data with a Mac or PC. This introduced the concept of being "plugged in" and having a mobile device connected with your other Internet-accessing devices and was a huge marketing success.
