Operation Barbarossa was the German invasion of the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941. Adolf Hitler launched a massive invasion of the Soviet Union with over 3 million soldiers. This war was a crucial turning point in WWII, because it's failure forced the Nazis to fight a two-front war against a coalition which had extremely superior resources. -
Operation Torch
Operation Torch was an amphibious attack against French North Africa by the United States and the United Kingdom during WWII. Casablanca, Oran, and Algiers were the landing sites for the attack, and in the end, the French surrendered. This was the first big success of WWII for the Allied powers. -
Operation Overlord
Operation Overlord is code for the Battle of Normandy. The Allied forces landed troops on Normandy for the largest amphibious assault in history. This success strengthened the resolve of those fighting against the Nazi tyranny. From this point on, the Allies began to drive into Germany and ultimately destroyed the Nazi regime. -
Yalta Conference
The Yalta Conference, or Crimea Conference, was held Feb. 4-11, 1945, at a Russian resort town in the Crimea. This was the WWII meeting of the heads of government of United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union to discuss post-war reorganization of Europe and Germany.
