  • Times Film Corp. v. Chicago

    Times Film Corp. v. Chicago
    City of Chicago passed an ordinance requiring that all films be examined prior to being shown to the general public. Times Film Corp. applied for a permit to show Don Juan, but refused to let it be examined. The city of Chicago didn't issue them a permit so Times Film Corp. took it to court on the basis that the ordinance is unconstitutional and violates the freedom of press part of the first amendment. Courts rule in favor of Times Film Corp.

    Heffron v. International Society for Krishna Consciousness
    Walking vendors and solicitors were not allowed during a Minnesota fair in St. Paul. Minnesota. Minnesota State Fair Rule 6.05 made that go into effect, and it was believe to go against the first amendment because it put restrictions on a religious group running their own private fair.

    Larson v. Valente
    In 1961, Minnesota passed the Minnesota Charitable Solicitation Act, which registered charities that are run by donations. This included Christian churches of all types, so therefore it violated the first amendment by violating religious affiliations.
