Leland Stanford made a bet with another person that a horse lifts all its hooves at one point. stanford hired a man named eadweard muybridge to find photographic proof. muybridge set up twelve cameras along the race all of them trigered by tripwire to take a picture of a horse in motion. muybridge's experiment launched a wave of "motion studies" this was one step closer to motion pictures. -
