The Horse in Motion was released in 1878, which is a short, silent film in high-speed stop-motion. Made by photographer Eadweard Muybridge, this film captures a horse in the air during some of its stride. This started with a bet between Eadweard and his friends for 25,000. -
In 1888, George Eastman established the "Kodak". The Kodak was transparent plastic film which sold for $25. It took 100-exposure rolls of film which produced circular images 2 5/8" in diameter. Four years earlier he developed a flexible film that was made of paper. -
The Lumiere brothers came out with the cinematogrape, which is camera, printer and projected. The brother used the cinematogrape in their first cine show in December, which allowed more than one person to view unlike Edison's camera. This event was the beginning of cinema history; the first show was at the Grand Café on the boulevard des Capucines in Paris. -
The Lumiere brothers introduced color with autochromes, which was first marketed in 1907. The Lumiere brothers had been working on the autochromes for year but it was only first demonstrated to the public in 1907. It wasn't sensitivity enough for hand held use. Autochromes were used for 30 years to capture color in photos until something more sensitive came along. -
Nickelodeons are movie theatres where the tickets cost only a nickel. Around 1910 the nickelodeons were a huge success in America, millions of people around the were going to these movie theatres. There were about 96 seats in each theatre and they mostly played short films. -
Silent films were out by the late 1920's, everything was all out talkies,or sound films. Entire movies weren't film with the whole cast talking, more like a couple lines here and there but sure did bright the horizons. People didn't it would be such a success because the world loved silent films and the actors in them as well, like Charlie Chaplin. But talkies introduced diversity of accents and voices and musicals, which a lot of people loved. -
Kodachrome was introduced in 1935, which was sensitive to each primary color and could be use in cinematography and photography. Kodachrome was very successful and is still use sometimes now. It has an amazing color palette. -
Blockbusters are summer movies with big budgets and big stars, these films bring in a lot of money and are truly success. Blockbusters became famous after the success of Jaws with Roy Scheider, but there are a lot others. Like Iron Man with Robert Downey Jr., or The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger, or any Spider-Man. -
Computer-generated imagery or better known as cgi hit the rise right after or really during the blockbuster era. Cgi made movies better, if done right, cgi made scfi movies. In most action and science-fiction movies everything you see is cgil, but you can also find it in other genres. -
Netflix came out in August of 1997, with well over 180 million subscribers in 2020. Netflix started off by allowing user to bowser movies and shows on their website and then sending it to the user, but each year they upgraded and got better. It was a little bumpy but Netflix started to stream on computers to xbox to playstation to smart-tvs. -
Blockbuster became really big year after year. They start coming out year round and not just summer and they started big debates on which movies are better and what not. These blockbusters introduced famous universes and movie franchise. -
When covid first was "introduced" people didn't take it serious but it got worse and worse, until we eventually went into a lockdown and movies and show production was stop. A number of shows and movies were just ending or starting filming and editing. A lot of show have picked of filming in late 2020 or early 2021, but almost everything has delayed a year and a half.
