    The Lumiere Brothers were French brothers who helped make the projector. unlike Edison, they made the projector widely available, and they showed films to audiences

    the great train robbery was the first movie to be made with a narrative. It had action, and stunts. at the end a guy pretends to shoot the audience, I find that quite amusing
  • Nickelodeons

    Nickelodeons were averaging 26 million viewers a week. Because of that Thomas Edison made a monopoly on the film industry. He made the MPPC to stop any other films being made.
  • Charlie Chaplin

    Charlie Chaplin was one of the first major movie stars. he dominated the silent movie space with his comedies. he was equivalent to a modern day celebrity.
  • The Jazz Singer

    The Jazz Singer was the first major feature to use sound not just for singing but for conversation. It baffled audiences across the world.
  • the wizard of oz

    One of the first live action films to be released with color. technicolor was new and never seen before. This and Gone with the Wind were both in color.
  • Jaws

    Jaws was the first major blockbuster. it paved the way for studios to release big films during the summer. And we still see that in modern blockbusters today.

    Toy Story was the first 3d animated movie. the entire movie is made with cgi. even though it doesn't look the greatest by todays standards, the practices are still used today.

    During this time, digital cameras are starting to get used more frequently. Film is becoming less common.
  • Covid 19

    The covid shutdown halted all films that were in production and pushed them back. movie theaters were closed down too. but this led to the skyrocket of streaming services.
