  • Week 3

    The baby is a blastocyst that contains all the DNA that determines the traits
  • Week 4

    The blastocyst is an embryp and is the size of a poppy seed.
  • Week 5

    The heart starts to beat at twice the rate of the mother. The body is the size of a sesame seed
  • Week 6

    The facial features form, and little openings are created for the arms and legs.
  • Week 8

    Arms and legs start growing with little fingers and toes. Also has the facial features like nose and upper lip. 5/8 of an inch long
  • Week 9

    Eyes have developed, but the eyelids are fused shut, and the tail is lost.
  • Week 10

    Embryo is a fets, and the vital organs are functioning, and fingernails and toenails are forming.
  • Week 11

    Body is almost fully formed. Bones are hardening and genitalia is developing.
  • Week 12

    Able to hear the heartbeat, and is 2 inches long
  • Week 14

    Kidneys produce urine, and this goes into the amniotic fluid. Facial expressions, and thumb sucking.
  • Week 15

    Can see light, although eyelids are shut
  • Week 16

    Sex is detectable
  • Week 18

    Baby movement is felt, but people from outside cannot feel the baby
  • Week 19

    Baby can hear heartbeat and soinds from outside. Skin is covered by a waxy coating, and is wrinkly. About 6 inches
  • Week 23

    Sense of movement is developed, so baby can feel dancing. Hearing is also improved, and can see movement on the surface of the body
  • Week 24

    Taste buds, brain, and hair are all developing. A foot long
  • Week 27

    lungs are developing but wont be fully functional. Inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid. Sleeps at intervals, and opens the eyes. Finger sucking
  • Week 28

    Dreaming, and has eyelashes while the eyesight improves. Neurons are forming in the brain. about 15 inches long
  • Week 32

    Little fingernails and toenails. Plumps up for birth. 17 inches long
  • Week 34

    Lunnds and central nervous system are developing. Skin is smooth, and is almost 18 inches long
  • Week 37

    Baby is considered early term, brain and lungs need more time to fully mature
  • Week 39

    Full term, about 20 inches, and is ready for outside life.
