    Agriculture Adjustment Act (AAA)
    The Agriculture Adjustment Act was passed by Congress in 1933 as part of the New Deal proposed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The AAA controlled the supply of crops such as corn, wheat, cotton, rice, peanuts, tobacco, and milk. It did so my offering payments to farmers in exchange for taking some of their land out of farming.

    The Agriculture Act of 1948 was signed by President Harry S. Truman. This act put into action many agricultural policy reforms, such as price supports for basic commodities.

    The Agricultural and Consumer Protection Act of 1973 was a 4 year farm bill that encouraged target prices and deficiency payments as tools that would support farm income and reduce surplus stocks. This act also authorized disaster payments and disaster reserve inventories, as well as authorized the use of commodities to feed low income mothers and children.

    The Food Security Act of 1985 was a 5 year bill that allowed lower commodity price and income supports. It also established a dairy herd buyout program, which was a dairy termination program.
