In 1862, Miguel Umañana's farm was recovered, which was called the melendez farm and was located where the Melendez neighborhood is today and it is said that this is the origin of the name of the neighborhood. -
The Barracks of the Pichincha Battalion, better known as the Pichincha Battalion, was a military barracks located in Santiago de Cali that served the Pichincha Infantry Regiment and later the Third Brigade Command. -
In 1946, the Municipality of Santiago de Cali and the Third Brigade signed a contract for swap, through which the Army ceded the land of the old Pichincha Battalion to the construction of the Municipal Administrative Center, in exchange for which the Municipality gave the Hacienda Napoles and 800 meters –between the Meléndez river and the Lili-14. where years later would be the territory of the Meléndez neighborhood. -
Lacordaire began on August 4, 1956 when the Reverend Father Ricardo López Coronado thought of creating what would be the first school, the first university and the first college, founded by the Dominican community. -
The first neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Caldas and Los Choros (below) approved by the municipal council date from 1964. The Meléndez neighborhood was only recognized in 1965. -
Meléndez is one of the stations of the MIO Integrated Transportation System of the city of Cali. -
In 2021, Meléndez's mio station was destroyed due to the protests of the national strike that took place in April. -
