    The prince Henry urged sea captions to explore southward along the coast of Africa. Henry wanted someone to find a route around the continent of the Spice Islands close to India. The other Europeans had different ideas. In 1497-1498 a portuguese explorer named Vasco da Gama found a route and he sailed all the way to India;. The prince Henry was from Portugal because thats who supported him.

    Christopher thought Asia could be reached by sailing west from Europe. He persuaded the king and queen of Spain. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue. Also in 1492 Columbus led his first expedition westward. He landed in the Bahamas. He reached South America, then a map maker named this new continent "America" for another explorer, the name was Amerigo Vespucci his name stuck. The purpose was because Columbus found the new wolrd which is America and its the world we live in today

    1524 King Francis I of France sent Verrazano which is a Italian navigator. He reached land at North Carolina's Outer Banks, he thought he saw the Pacific Ocea. Then he explored farther up the coast. When he got back to France he submitted a glowing report.
