    At the start of World War II, there was an immediate necessity for fast, efficient training in order to adequately supply the military. The National Defense Advisory Commission, developed JIT (Job Instruction Training) for plant workers. This on-the-job training assisted in training supervisors to be able to train their employees to produce results quickly and effectively.

    According to Sleight (1993) as quoted by Esetp (2008, p. 17) Individualized instruction in essence replaces the teacher with systematic or programmed materials. Workers were in need of individualized attention following wartime business practices.

    Bloom's Taxonomy, although an educational tool, began to demonstrate the importance of setting objectives for training purposes. With more personalized training, preparation becomes much more vital.

    systems change in organizations and communities” (Esetp, 2008, p. 21). This comprehensive concentration on business results correlated to the “emerging field of human performance improvement (HPI) (Esetp, 2008, p. 21). This expanded the field training to included activities
    that “improved business results” (Esetp, 2008, p. 21).

    The 1960s brought about the development of teaching machines capable of delivering programmed instruction. Minicomputers also began to appear in this decade. This was essentially the beginning of computer based training, although primitve, that would pave the way for future machine training methods.

    The 80s saw a decline in job training importance. With the implementation of advancements on the job, many companies downsized their workforces in faor of mechanical employees.

    The 90s provided more advancements in training than ever before. Companies began to place emphasize back on the importance of training superviors or management in order to benefit the masses. Computer based training really began to increase and even online training began to take shape in its most primitive forms.

    Since 2000, the training profession has gained even more clout in the business world. Instead of being an aspect of business, it is now at the forefront of what it takes to be successful in any aspect of life. Online training is now the prominent manner for on the job training, and the implementation of social media into training practices has further escalated the expectation of job training.
