    The “Boom” of the tourism in Spain
    The “Boom” of the tourism in Spain started at 1959, when the tourism was considered as an important way of development of the country. It increases during the 60's with the indiscriminate building of hotels, apartments etc. that gave place to a situation of speculation with no plannification; and this situation made Spain to be in a massive tourism destination.

    The tourists were mainly from Spain, but started to come from other countries, mainly from United Kingdom, France, Germany and Sweden.
    Those abroad tourists often were between 40 to 60 years old, and they just came in summer months (July and August) and the main destination was the Mediterranean Coast.

    The promotion of Spain in the 60's was principally based on the beaches and also in the music, the “folklore” and “flamenco”

    After a brief recession at the end of the 80's the tourism grew again thanks to relevant events as the “Expo” of Sevilla and the Olimpic Games of Barcelona in 1992.

    Also in this decade, the domestic tourism left the sun and sand, and started to take care of its natural and cultural patrimony.

    The concept of “Marca España” started to be known in Spain, and used the slogan Spain everything “NEW” under the sun, in order to promote museums and monuments mainly.

    The main tourists were still brititsh, but the State look for a tourist that not only comes for the sun. Spanish artists tries to send the “Marca España” abroad and inside Spain. Started the awareness for the enviromental sustainability and the promotion of new kinds of tourism (Sport, cultural, adventure...) thanks to the events of the previous decade (Expo, Olimpic Games).
    A new tourism non seasonal started because of a new kind of traveler, the IMSERSO traveler.

    The evolution of the transports was very important in this decade with the beginning of the “Touroperators,” who started to create touristic packages that end with the monopoly of the foreign travel agencies. Also, in these years, some of the main Low-cost flight companies, like Ryanair or EasyJet, were founded, whose low prices and the easiness to purchase make them a great value for tourism and the tourists. In this decade, the building of theme parks all over the country is also important.

    At the beggining of the new millenium, a new powerful competitor, the use of new technologies and internet and the new models of transports revolutionized the way of travel and organize a travel in the last 20 years.

    From the year 2000 touristm in Spain increased and not only in sun and sand tourism, but also in cultural mainly. People who comes used to be young people with a higher economic level. But with the evolution of Internet the demand of hotels got stuck.

    Even with this evolution, from the world crisis that started in 2008 in USA, tourism in Spain was affected in the time that tourists spent here, also they started to refuse of going to a hotel, and appeared new ways of accomodation.
    In the last 20 years, the evolution of Internet and the appearence of smartphones have been the reason of the new society in the world of the information. Then, the 2.0 web, gives even more power to purchase and compare to the client.
