Evolution of the Soccer Cleat

  • Aug 9, 1525

    First boots were made.

Cornelius Johnson made the first pair of soccer cleats which were heavy, clumsy, and were made out of leather, which King Henry VIII wore.
  • Doubled cleat

They made the first steel-toed work boot which then doubled as football boots.
  • The "Soccus"

the slipper-shoe, called "soccus" and for once players' feet began to look alike. Rounded studs or "cleats" could be inserted into soles for grip. The boots weighed about 500g and featured ankle-high, heavy, protective leather. Problem was, the six-studded boot became twice as heavy when wet.
  • First light-weight boots

Makers began to include removable studs to the boot design. Also the makers made the boot light-weight and durable to many weather conditions. THey also became much more resilient, allowing for more and better flexibility and performance.
  • No more leather boots!

The makers made a synthetic soccer boot, made for a much easier feel on the ball because of the shiny slippery material.
  • Kangaroo Leather

The makers made the first Kangaroo leather boot, sold for about 8 shillings (200 dollars), made for a much more natural feel for the ball and cusions the ball better in order for ball control in the air.
  • Carbon-Fiber soleplate

Made the first Mercurial Superfly made for Cristiano Ronaldo, with a carbon fiber soleplate made for traction and better accelaration. Because of the carbon-fiber soleplate, it is much more flexible and feel more like a sock than a boot.
  • SprintWeb

Made the First Adidas boot with the "SprintWeb"-the new dribble tech made for keeping the ball close to you, it is called sprint web because it is shaped like a web that you can barely see, in front of the boot, made out of rubber.
