The Osborne 1 was the first commercial portable laptop. Though, it did have a lot of limitations. The screen was only 5' (diagonally) and could only 52 characters in a line. Plus, it wasn't exactly lightweight, weighing up to 24.5 pounds. The overall price is $1795.

The GRiD Compass was invented by Bill Moggridge. This was the first clamshell case laptop. The laptop was meant for bussiness execuvtives, but they were also used by the U.S military and NASA in the 1980's. Though it offer a lot, it was expensive at the price of $8150.

The HP-150 is the first touch screen computer. The made it this was to make the product seem easier to use. The screen consisted of vertical and horizontal infrared light beams. Basically, your finger would break the beams and that would direct the cursor to where you want it to be.

The IBM PC Convertible is the first convertible laptop (it's a tablet and laptop in one). Without the display attached, you would be use a external monitor with an adapter attached.

Modern laptops are obviously very different from the very first laptops. Now they are faster, more lightweight, and easier to use. They are also more portable and don't take up as much battery.
