    Phil Knight made a deal with Onitsuka Company from Japan. They took the design of his shoe and manufactured it and started building it. His first shipment of the shoe was in 1964. The show was leather and rubber. The bottom of the show had small spikes for track or some just had a flat bottom. They did not have a lot of protection and fell apart very easily.

    It is a graphic design created by Caroline Davidson in 1971. She met Phil Knight while he was teaching accounting classes and she started doing some freelance work for his company. Phil Knight asked Caroline to design a logo that could be placed on the side of a shoe. She handed him the SWOOSH, he handed her $35.00. In 1972 the first Nike shoe with a swoosh on it was made.

    Nike's second shoe showed improvement from the first one. First, the leather it was made of was more durable. The last leather was more like a fabric but the second was leather like a shoe from today. Also, the show was lighter. The show on the inside did not need extra padding because they were going to be used for track runners only so they took away some of the protection on the upper part of the shoe that made it lighter.     About seven years later nike came out with the Nike Tailwind. This shoe had many new technological advancements. First, instead of having a few big spikes the had the whole shoe covered with tiney spikes or bumps. NIke thought that it would be better to have grip throughout the shoe indtead of only certain spots. Also this allowed the rinner to were the shoes outside of running. Secondly, there is more support on the bottom of the shoe. For the first time Nike used Nike Air. It is technology

    used in most shoes today. They would make a mold of the shoe and using preshorized air the blow the mold up creating the sole of the shoe.

    Nike Air Force 1 was the first Nike basketball shoe. FIrst, the shoe was a high top. The high top allowed the weight to be distributed throughout the leg and not just the ankle. Even for it's size it was a pretty lite shoe to wear. Also, this was the first Nike basketball shoe to use air in the sole. The air instead of stopping after the heel would go to the toes allowing comfort and lighter weight. Lastly, the grip on the bottom of the shoe helped the user. The grip on the bottom forcused where

    the user used the most force. The at this location they put the sofest part of the shoe so it could mold and grip while it would getter more solid the farther away it went.

    In the 80s and 90s Nike created the same shoe technology just with different colors.

    This shoe was designed to feel like you were running in barefeet. First, the sole of the shoe was mad out of foam like material letting your foot form around the shoe and the ground. Also the shoe was very lite. The show was made out of lite soft plastic and soft material and it had many air holes making it weigh less.

    Nike and Apple teamed up to make the Nike+. The took the design of the earlier shoes from the 70s and they added technology. The shoe made music and gave you feedback about the run like how many miles and the speed.
  • Air Max

    In 2007 NIke created Nike Air Max. Air Maxes are the most bought shoe today. They are the lightest shoes nike has made and they are voted the best designed shoe and most comfortable shoe by most sports magazines.
