    This compromise helped to diminiish growing tensions between the states by trying to solve the issue of slavery. The 36'30 line was established, with states north of this (with the exception of Missouri) would be free states and states south of this would be slave states. This helped to temporarily solve problems between the states.

    This was a compromise created to help solve the slavery issue. With this, California was admitted as a free state while Utah and New Mexico were free to determine slavery based on popularity vote. This compromise was intended to create peace and solve the issue of slavery, but this was only a temporary solution.
