Melbourne founded
John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner bought 2,000 k2 of land around the Yarra river from the Wurundjeri people. John Batman signed a contract indicating that Batman and Fawkner would receive the land and in return the Wurundjeri people would receive from thew men scissors, knifes, flour, hour-glasses and other substantial items. -
The Hoddle grid deigned
Robert Hoddle sketch of the streets of the Centeral Business District were laid out. -
Melbourne declared a legal port
Governer Bourke declared Melbourne an administrative centre and a legal port. Making it a major trading centre and for immigration. -
Melbourne hospital founded
Melbourne's first ever hospital is built in Melbourne's inner-city. -
Victorian gold rush
Edward Hargraves struck gold at the tributaries of the MacQuarie River and thus the rush was on. -
