    my sourceThe white primary was a loophole around laws so whites and only whites could have a counting vote in a primary election. The US Supreme Court finally ruled that the white primary system was “unconstitutional” and should be removed. For the first year in Georgia, blacks had a counting vote.   • Integration of the armed forces

    Integration of the armed forces
    President Truman signed the executive order 9981 saying “It is hereby declared to be the policy of the President that there shall be equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed services without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin." Blacks and whites were integrated because Truman thought that the military would bring races together as one. Picture Link

    Brown vs Board of Education
    info LinkThe Brown vs Board of Education was a court argument protesting that black schools were not treated the same as white schools unlike where the Jim Crow law stated that blacks and whites could be segregated as long as treated equally.     Change to Georgia's state flag
    information linkIn 1956, the state senators Jefferson Lee Davis and Willis Harden signed the senate bill no. 98 which proposed that a new state flag honoring the confederate soldiers. Because the flag represented the Confederacy, people thought of it as racist to black citizens. In 2001, a new flag was created to get rid of the pevious and discriminating flag. picture Link

    info linkThe Montgomery BusBoycott was a potest in Alabama and other southern states protesting against segregation on the public transportation. The whole conundrum started when a women by the name Rosa Parks was on a public transportation. She was sitting and down and wouldnt give up her seat for a white man and was arrested. The alligation went to Supreme Court and ruled that blacks may sit virtually anywhere they publicly were allowed to. Picture Link

    Crisis at Central High School and the“Little Rock Nine”
    Info sourceThe Little Rock Nine started when a national gaurd denied the entry of an African-American to the Central Highschool. The case then went to court and finally rule that the nine blacks that were denied from Litlle Rock HighSchool were allowed to enroll in. For their safety, President Eisenhower sent army troops to protect the nine blacks that entered Central High. Picture Link

    Hebrew Benevolent Congregation in ATLbombed
    Info sourceOn October 12th, 1958, a Jewish synagogue was bombed with over 50 sticks of dynamite. The Jewish synagogue was known for being one of the oldest and wealthiest syangogues in Atlanta. After the bombing happened, the "Underground Confederates" anounced they bombed the syanagogue and said they would bomb any Jewish, nigro, or Communist places and buildings.   • Sibley Commission

    Sibley Commission
    info linkGeorgia Governor Ernest Vandiver Jr. was forced to make a decision between integrating Georgia's public schools or dropping state funding for them. Because he could'nt decide which one to choose from, he created the Sibley Commission. He set out to get the peoples opinions what to decide on then send the results to the governor.     Integration of The University of Georgia
    info linkOn January 6th, 1961, Federal Court ruled that Hamilton Holmes and Charlayne Hunter who were both black to be enrolled in the University of Georgia. This order precipitated the Constitutional Law stating that any white school who admitted a black student would have their state funds cut off. The the other white students in the university were angry and threatened the 2 black students for months.

They went masny different places but were met by almost the same thing of mobs and furious crownds. They would beat them up and one time took over the bus.     16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham bombed

    John F. Kennedy assassinated

While driving there, President Kennedy was shot in the head and neck and died. The acused killer was Lee Harvey Oswald. While being sent to the County Jail he was too shot and killed.     MLK assassinated
    Info LinkOn April 4, 1968, MLK was assassinated by a sniper by the name of James Ray in Maphis, Tennessee. Shortly after this incedent occured, riots broke out all across the country bringing over $50,000,000 worth of property damage and claiming 39 lives.     info linkThe integration of the schools started because of the Brown vs. Board of Education case. However many attempts were made to stop or slow down the integration progress.
