Battle of the Atlantic
The Battle of the Atlantic lasted from September 1939 until the defeat of Germany in 1945, was the war’s longest continuous military campaign. This battle to control the Atlantic shipping lanes involved thousands of ships and stretched across thousands. -
Battle of Britain
German and British Air forces fought in the skies over the United Kingdom on July 10th of 1940. This was one of the largest bombing campaigns ever. The Britains won and this saved them from a ground invasion. Their victory proved their air power alone could win the war. -
Battle of El Alamein, Egypt
British commander Bernard Law Montgomery launched an infantry attack at El Alamein on Oct. 23, 1942. This was one of the turning point battles for the war. -
Operation Torch
The commander of Operation Torch was Dwight D. Eisenhower. This took place in French Morocco and French Algeria. The Soviet Union had pushed the United States and United Kingdom to start operations in Europe and open a second front to reduce the pressure of German forces on the Soviet troops. -
Invasion of Sicily/Italy
The Allied invasion of Sicily, codenamed Operation Husky, was a major World War II campaign, in which the Allies took Sicily from the Axis Powers. It was a large amphibious and airborne operation, followed by six weeks of land combat. It launched the Italian Campaign. -

Hitler Commits Suicide
Hitler knew his defeat was coming. After what Hitler had done to the Russian, he knew if they captured him he would have the worst done to him. Probably not even imaginable. He then commited suicide on April 30, 1945. -
VE Day!
VE day is a holiday celebrated on may 8th, 1945. It celbrates when the Nazi's surrendered and after that it marked the end of the world war for Europe. Upon the defeat of Germany, celebrations erupted throughout the world. From Moscow to Los Angeles, people celebrated. In the United Kingdom, more than one million people celebrated in the streets to mark the end of the European part of the war.
