    Battle of Britain

    The Battle of Britain happened when Britain declared war against Germany. Hitler attacked Britain with France under heel by bombing them from above and blocking their ports from the sea. “The planned German invasion of the British isles required air superiority over the English Channel.” (iBook 12) Even though the British had fewer planes, they ended up winning the Battle of Britain and saved the islands from invasion.
  • Operation Barbarossa

    Operation Barbarossa

    In June of 1941 Hitler broke the German-Soviet non-aggression pact. By doing this Hitler was hoping to break the military threat of the Soviet Union, capture agricultural lands and takeover numerous oil fields. At first Germany took over tons of land and captured hundreds of thousands of prisoners. Over time though, being the largest land invasion in history, the Germans grew weak and starved. The Soviet Union broke hitlers army and insight of the capital city the German army fell back.
  • Operation Torch

    The United States and Britain pushed Germany out of Africa and at the same time the Army Air Force sent hundreds of bombers to England. On top of that at night the British Royal Air Force bombed German cities. The point of Operation Torch was to come for Germany from multiple sides and trap/push them out.
  • Operation Overlord

    Operation Overlord

    The first day of Operation Overlord began with overnight glider and parachute landings, naval bombardment huge air attacks in Normandy. Operation Overlord had allied land forces from the United States, Britain, Canada, Free France, Polish forces, forces from Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece and the Netherlands. They all participated in ground campaign and most provided naval and air support. The Allies gradually expanded and when the Germans tried to counterattack on August 8th they failed.
  • Yalta Conference

    Yalta Conference

    Held from February 4th to the 11th in 1945 was the Yalta Conference. The meeting was held to discuss the reestablishment of the broken Europe after World War II. At the meeting was the heads of government from the United States, the United Kingdom and the Soviet Union. The Big Three agreed that after Germanys surrender it would be divided into four post war occupation zones making the conference a crucial turning point in the Cold War.
