    History of Europe

    Contains 12 major events that happened in Europe from 1850-2014. Most are great wars, or depressions, and some are falls of Empires that ruled throughout Europe.
  • Crimean War

    Crimean War
    The Crimean War was a conflict between Russia and the alliances of France, Britain, the Ottoman Empire, and Sardinia. The entire war was because of different Christianity beliefs and were mainly the Orthodox Christians (Russians) who conflicted with the Catholics (Ottoman Empire). Russia lost, but it wasn't a major war that caused a large amount of lives lost.
  • The Long Depression

    The Long Depression
    The Long Depression was a worldwide economic recession that lasted for around 6 months. It caused a large impact on major industry countries such as the U.S. as well as the United Kingdom which got them taken off the lead for economies in Europe. It caused lots of money to be lost from stocks crashing.
  • World War I

    World War I
    World War I was the major European war that was with Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. These countries fought against Serbia, France, Britain, and Russia. 20 million soldiers died in this World War. Also, 65 million soldiers were sent out to fight. This ended in 1918.
  • Paris Peace Conference

    Paris Peace Conference
    This peace conference settled the war between the countries in 1919. Some important people who were there were President Woodrow WIlson, from the U.S., Prime Minister David Lloyd George from Great Britain, George Clemenceau from France, and some other country leaders. They created the League of Nations, as well as the Treaty of Versailles.
  • The Great Depression

    The Great Depression
    After the devastating World War I, the Great Depression started in 1929. Prices fell and profits fell in stores. It caused stock of products to go down, as well as a lot of people's money. At this time there were MANY poor people and very very few rich people.
  • World War II

    World War II
    In 1937, the even greater World War started between Germany against other countries in Europe. Adolf Hitler, the brutal dictator that was for the Germans and started his attack on Poland and started spreading all around Europe. He killed many lives resulting in the Holocaust, which was the massacre of attempting to kill all the Jews in the world. Japan later also allied with them and it started 2 wars going on between the U.S. and Japan, as well as the U.S. and Germany.
  • Cold War

    Cold War
    The Cold War was not necessarily a "war" in my opinion, but it was basically the splitting of Europe between the Soviet Union which were communists and the western countries who stayed untouched by the communist rule. This was the result of World War II because the Soviet Union took rule of a large chunk of Germany as well as other areas across Europe which created large conflicts between the western countries and the Soviet Union.
  • Hungarian Revolution

    Hungarian Revolution
    The Hungarian Revolution started the revolt against the Soviet Union controlling their country in 1956. Over 2,500 Hungarians were killed because of their revolt, as well as over 700 Soviet troops. 200,000 of Hungarians fled as refugees to escape the Soviet's communist control. This created a large effect against the Soviet Union's downfall.
  • Prague Spring

    Prague Spring
    In 1968, the Prague Spring was a political liberation from Czechoslovakia.Reforms were attempted to grant additional rights to the citizens of the country, including media, speech, and travel. This caused the country to split into two countries known as Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. Both had different political beliefs for their citizens.
  • Yugoslavia's Fall

    Yugoslavia's Fall
    Yugoslavia, the home of 6 countries, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, and Macedonia, fell to a series of political conflicts in the early 1990s. One major cause of Yugoslavia's fall was when the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia split in the '80s. In 1992, there was no more Yugoslavia and it was 6 seperate countries with that contained different ethnic groups and political governments.
  • Ending of the Soviet Union

    Ending of the Soviet Union
    In late December of 1991, the Soviet Union resigned from service of communism. After the Soviet Union split, it made lots of conflicts throughout Europe gone, as well as hostility in NATO. This was the end of the Cold War, as well as a major part of eastern Europe where the Soviet Union took control of places such as Germany.
  • The Great Recession

    The Great Recession
    The Great Recession started at the end of 2008 and ended in 2009. It was a global economic decline which caused a large amount of unemployment rates to go up. Some companies went bankrupt, and it was a loss of money to highly industrial countries.
