  • Second Opium War

    Second Opium War
    The Second Opium War started on April 28th in 1856. It was the second Chinese War. The British Empire and the Second French Empire fought againsts the Qing Dynasty of China. It lasted for four years.
  • Eiffel Tower

    Eiffel Tower
    The idea of the Eiffel tower was inspired by two women named Emile Nouguier and Maurice Koechlin. The idea struck them in 1814. They were both engineers. Their idea was put to use and the Eiffel tower was built on June 27, 1884.
  • World War I

    World War I
    World War I started on July 28th, 1914. After the assinations of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary declare war on Serbia. Later on in the war, troops of France, United Kingdom, and Russia fought againsts the Central Powers of Russia and Austria-Hungary. In 1917 the United States declares war on Germany.
  • The Russian Revolution

    The Russian Revolution
    The Russian Revolution started on January 1, 1917. It was started by millions of people who wanted to change history. It dismantled the Tsarist autocracy and led to the creation of the Russian SFSR. The Emperor was forced to abdicate and the old regime was replaced by a provisional government during the first revolution of February 1917.
  • Irish War of Independence

    Irish War of Independence
    The Irish War of Independence started on January 27, 1919. The war was known as a "guerrilla" war. The was occured between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the British government. The war was also known as the Anglo-Irish war.
  • Spanish Civil War

    Spanish Civil War
    The Spanish Civil War started on July 3, 1936. The war was a result of political differeneces between the republicans. The Nationalists prevailed, and Franco ruled Spain for next 36 years. The war lasted until April 1, 1939.
  • World War II

    World War II started on September 2, 1939. It started with Germany's invations in Poland. Germany's invasion in Poland made Britain and France delcare war on Germany. The war ended in 1945.
  • Treaty of Rome

    Treaty of Rome
    The Treaty of Rome was signed on March 25, 1957. A total of two treaties were signed. They gave existence to the European Economic Community (EEC). The Treaty of Rome consisted of blank pages between its frontispiece and page for the signatures.
  • Sputnik 1

    Sputnik 1
    Sputnik launched on October 4, 1957. The Soviet Union launched Sputnik. It was about the size of a basketball. It weighed about 183 pounds.
  • The Beatles

    The Beatles
    The Beatles was created on February 9, 1961. That was the date they had their first lunch time debut. Their first appearance was at the Cavern. They made over $42.00 a night.
  • Chernobyl

    Chernobyl
    Chernobyl occured on April 25, 1926. It was a disaster that happened from a nuclear power plant. This disaster happened in Ukraine. An explosion released many radioactive particles into the atmosphere.
  • Fall of the Berlin Wall

    Fall of the Berlin Wall
    The Berlin Wall fell on September 9, 1989. It was a barrier built by the German Democratic Republic. The barrier included guard towers placed along large concrete walls. The Eastern Bloc claimed that the wall was erected to protect its population from fascist elements.
