The French didn't expect the Germans to enter from Belgium and had made a blockade on the German border instead. They were completely blindsided.

Japanese planes bombed the the harbor in hopes of cripling the navy and keeping the states out of the war. Unfortunately, they only caused the opposite reaction which led to catastrophic consequences for the Japanese.

    Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union fought this critical battle for control of the city of Stalingrad. Civilians were directly targeted during this battle by air raids and it was often regarded as the bloodiest battle in the history of warfare.

    Otherwise known as Operation Overlord, the Normandy Invasion was the largest amphibious invasion to ever take place. The landings were then preceded by massive aerial and naval bombardments along with heavy fire from machine guns positioned in bunkers on shore. The shore was mined and covered with obstacles like wooden stakes, metal tripods, and barbed wire.

    Was the last major German defensive campaign against the Allies. Took place across the countried of Belgium, France, and Luxembourg. The Germans caught the Americans completely off guard by minimizing radio-traffic and moving troops and equipment under the cover of darkness.
