  • The Montreal Protocol

    The protocol gives provisions to reduce the production and consumption of ODSs to protect the ozone layer. It phases down the use of ODSs in a stepwise, time-bound manner. It gives different timetables for developing and developed countries.
  • The Kyoto Protocol-COP3

    Works on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities: it acknowledged that individual countries have different capabilities in combating climate change, owing to economic development, and therefore placed the obligation to reduce current emissions on developed countries on the basis that they are historically responsible for the current levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  • The Copenhagen Accord-COP15

    It is a voluntary agreement between the United States, China, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Russia and hundreds more making up over 80% of the global population and over 85% of global emissions. It is similar to the Kyoto protocol except it is a voluntary agreement.
  • The Cancun Agreements-COP16

    A list of significant decisions by the international community to address the long-term challenge of climate change collectively and comprehensively over time and to take concrete action to speed up the global response.
  • The Paris Agreement-COP21

    Paris Agreement is the world’s first comprehensive climate agreement. Although developed and developing countries were parties to Kyoto Protocol, developing countries were not mandated to reduce their emissions.; This means that while Paris Agreement is legally binding to all parties, Kyoto Protocol was not.
  • The Marrakech Partnership-COP22

    The Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action supports implementation of the Paris Agreement it enables collaboration between governments and private industries that must act on climate change. Its main objective is to strengthen collaboration between governments and key stakeholders to immediately lower emissions and increase resilience against climate impacts.
  • COP 26

    The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow on 31 October – 12 November 2021. The COP26 summit will bring parties together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
