Mach Bands
Mach Published "On the effect of the spatial distribution of the light stimulus on the retina", which discussed an optical phenomena where the retina of the eye would create a false shadow using it's built in "edge enhancement". This is now commonly seen in radiology. Noting the photo, you can see the lightening and darkening effects. -
Supersonic Speed
In Physics, Mach used Schlieren technique to photograph the movement of bullets and depicted supersonic movement, as well as published a paper with Peter Salcher on his findings on the sound effects of this movement. These findings would go on to have the Mach number attributed to his research. -
