Nimrod Expedition
Shackleton sets out on his first expedition to Antarctica on the ship Nimrod. On his expediton he and his team climb Mt Erebus, the 2nd highest volcano in Antarctica, make a number of scientific discoveries, and get closer to the South Pole than ever before. -
Endurance Expedition
Shackleton sets off with his crew again to Antarctica on the ship Endurance. -
Endurance gets trapped in ice
The Endurance gets stuck in pack ice. -
Shackleton and his crew go to Elephant island
Shackleton goes with his crew to Elephant island after they abandoned the ship. -
Shackleton heads to South Georgia
Shackleton and some of his crew travel to South Georgia to find help for the rest of his men. -
Shackleton arrives at Stromness Whaling Station
Shackleton arrives at Stromness whaling station after 36 hours of trekking. -
Shackleton sets sail for Elephant Island
Shackleton sails with the few men with him to Elephant island to rescue their crew. The boat they are on is the Yelcho, a boat that they had borrowed form the Chilean Government. -
Shackleton rescues his crew
Shackleton arrives at Elephant island and rescues the rest of his men. Not a single member of the crew died.
