    Election of 1860

    Three parties had four nominees in total. Democratic party was split between the North and South. Southern democrats nominated John Breckenridge for pro-slavery. In the North, Stephen Douglas was nominated to keep slavery from the North. The Republican party nominated Abraham Lincoln while the Constitutional Union Party nominated John Bell for “reconciliation”. Abraham Lincoln was declared the winner and new President of the United States which upset many states, specially South Carolina.

    This was formed by the states that seceded when Abraham Lincoln became president. A total of 7 states including South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas seceded from the Union.

    This is where Robert E. Lee surrendered his army because he believed the South has weakened enough to discontinue the war. He wanted to prevent the loss of lives of the rest of his men and unnecessary destruction to the South. Appomattox

    13th Amendment

    The 13th amendment simply states that slavery shall no longer be allowed in the United States of America. It was passed on to the Congress on the 31st of January, 1865 and later on ratified on the 6th of December of the same year.
