  • sputnik

    The sputnik was a satellite launched by the soviet union in 1957 the sputnik was the first artifial satelite to orbit the earth. It took the sputnik 98 minutes to orbit earth the satelite was able to confirm that it was safe for humans to come into space's atmosphere. It gained information on the space's pressure densisty and much more. The sputnik was launched in the soviet union and sent into the earths orbit.
  • pioneer program

    launched on 8/17/58 from cape canaveral the last pioneer was launched on 8/8/1978 and the pioneer program lasted 20 years. The progam was created to explore sun, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus all missions paved a way for later in-depth investigations
  • Mercury

    mercury was a mission to put man in space. The mission started on 10/7/58 and lunched a manned spacecraft on 4/9/59. It look off from cape canaveral in the U.S and it sucessfully put an american man in space. NASA and John F. Kennedy made it possible to the men. Its goals were to have a manned spacecraft orbit the earth, to explore man's ability to function in space, and to recover spacecraft and man safely on earth. the mercury mission sucessed in all of their goals.
  • Venera Probes

    Venera 1 was launched on 2/12/61 but connection was lost after a few days. After Venera 1 there were 15 other launches taking off until 1983 their purpose was to explore the planet venus by using a series of probes theyu wanted to map venus's surface.
  • mariner project

    july 22, 1962 the mariner 1 launched from the united states. The mariner project was made to explore and examine Mars, Venus, and Mercury and to gain further knowlege for future launches. The project came to an end on novemeber 3, 1973
  • Gemini

    NASA and John F. Kennedy created a space mission that involded 12 flights including 2 unmanned tests. The goals of the experiment was to test man and its spacecraft in flight for up to 2 weeks, to dock with oriting vehicles, and to land in a given spot on earth. They successful did this by putting man in space for two weeks by preparing a sturdy foundation for their time in space.
  • Apollo

    Tragdy struck on 1967 when a fire accured during a pre flight with the crew traped inside the crew died Apollo 7 lifted off from cape canveral on oct. 11, 1968 it was the first u.s scaecraft with men to fly into space. Apollo 11 was the first manned spacecraft to land on the moon. In all the purpose of the apoll missions was to land man on the moon within 12 years, establish technology to meet national intrests, and to devlop man's capability to work in the lunar environment.

  • Viking Probes

    Viking 1 launched on August 20, 1975 viking 2 departed on 9/9/75 viking 1 was a orbiter and viking 2 was a lander meaning it landed on mars. The orbiter was created to take more images of mars and we wanted to learn more about the solar sytem as it reached mars. The lander was created to safly land on mars and to take photos on the surface. These events took place in the u.s and in mars.

    voyager two was lunched on august 20, 1977 and discovered 10 new moons and uranus in 1986

    -The voyager probes luanches into space and used the gravational pulls of space to get far enough to see the whole entire solar system, but this probe was used to discover more about space probe 1 was lauchned on septempber 5th and landed on nuptune in 1989
  • the space shuttles

    4/12/81 was the first launch of the space shuttle columbia. The last shuttle launched was on June 28, 2011, Atlantis. The shuttles were launched in Vancouver, Kazakhstan, and California. they were created to put satelites in space, and to transport cargo to and from earth to space.
  • Magellan spacecraft

    launched on may 4, 1989 from the Kennedy Space Center in Orsino, FL it was made to discover more about Venus becasue not much had been known it we also wanted better photos of the planet.
  • Galileo mission

    Galieo was sent to jupiter to study the planet and it magniet feild and its moons. It was launched into space on october 18,1989, the mission ended on september 21, 2003 the cost of the whole thing was 1.6 billion
  • hubble space telescope

    the first launch launched in april of 1990 the us and europe participated and the project helped find moons on pluto, discover how old the universe is and helped us better understand how the universe works.

    The Eugene shoemaker launched on Feburary 17th 1996 from cape canaveral and reach eros orbit on feburary 14, 2000 on feburary 18, 2001 the eugene shoemaker mad eits last call down to earth its purpose was to measure the shape, masss, density, gavity feild, magnetic field, and the spin state of eros. This was the first asteriod mission
  • Cassini Mission

    Who: NASA, 260 scientists (U.S.), 17 nations (Europe), hundreds of engineers, navigators, and ground support personnel were involved in the Cassini mission in total the mission costed about $3.26 billion and it was the first spacecrasft to ever orbit saturn. The spacecraft orbited saturn and took place in the u.s and in euorpe. the spacecraft was luanched on 10/15/97. They sent the Cassini mission becasue they wanted to see saturns orbit and its moons.they use sophisticated sensors and uv
  • Space Stations

    The fist module was built on november 20, 1998, the last was built on march 11, 2008 and it was completly assembled in 2011 in space. The space station is lo.cated 248 miles above earth and it is seen from earht as a bright light in the sky like a star. This is important becasue it helped our countries become closer by coming together as one, NASA and others learned more about space and earth, and it helped our economy.

    on august 8th 2001 the genesis spacecraft was launched from cape canaveral into space on september 8, 2004 the returning capsule entered earth's atmophere this project was formed to develop an understanding of the soolar nebula and how it became our solar system.

    the first rovered launched in june of 2003 from cape canaveral its name was opportunity the second launched also from cape canaveral in july 2003 and its name was spirt both touched down on mars in janurary 2004. There purpose was to explore the martian surface and to beat the soviet union in the race to mars
