    Boston Latin Grammar School (established in April 23, 1636), was the first Latin Grammar School. The purpose of Latin Grammar Schools was to prepare upper-class boys for the entrance test for Harvard.

    Not a book but a wooden paddle. This paddle had a thin layer of cow's horn to protect a sheet of paper glued to the paddle. On the sheet paper was often the ABCs or the Lord's Prayer.
