Introduction to Standardized Testing
Dating back to World War I, standardized tests are a staple within the american education system to this day. Since the American Education System relies so heavily on these tests, one could say that their introduction is a critical point within our history. -
Brown vs Board of Education
This court case played an integral role in further improving the American Education System. Prior to this, black children would not even be guaranteed a school to go to, let alone one with proper textbooks or other resources. As a result of this integration of black children into previously white classrooms, black individuals within the United States could slowly find themselves in higher ranking positions that could lead to further change in the future. -
The Coleman Report
The Coleman Report was vital in the way that it shifted the focus from school facilities to student achievement as a measure of a school's quality. With this shift in dynamic, many students that previously had something holding them back began to receive more attention, thus improving American Education. -
Public Law 94-142
This law finally set a principle to how the Education System would handle children with disabilities. Prior to this, students with physical and mental disabilities would simply be sent home and were commonly rejected by society. Now, following Public Law 94-142, these youth have equal opportunity to a quality education. -
No Child Left Behind Act
This is yet another act implemented to give all students equal opportunity by holding schools accountable for the education they are giving to these youth. These all share importance in that they allow youth to stay educated on modern issues and knowing how to go about reading into different areas.
