  • Early Childhood

    Early Childhood
The earliest reading experiences that I have include my two grandmothers reading children's books to me. This was a really good experience because I was able to listen to the story as my grandmothers would act out and read the stories to me. They were really engaging and got me to enjoy books from an early age.
  • Kindergarten

    Kindergarten
When was in kindergarten. I remember being able to tell the difference between the words sea and see. I would paint these words on a canvas during class time. I remember being proud of this because these were some of the first words that I was able to write out. I was also proud because I knew they sounded the same but looked different.
  • Kindergarten 2

    Kindergarten 2
I remember being in kindergarten and we were all assigned to write a paragraph about what we wanted to be when we were older. We were to read them to the class when we were done. I remember not knowing how to read or write so, I copied the girl sitting next to me. My paper was just a bunch of random scribbles. When it was my turn to present, I froze. I remember this being a negative experience.
  • First Grade

    First Grade
We were assigned to bring in our favorite book to read to the class. I remember bringing in a Dr. Seuss book. When I read my book to the class I remember some other kids saying that I brought in a little kids book. This made me question if I was not as good of a reader as the other students. This was also a negative experience with me.
  • Second Grade

    Second Grade
I remember starting to feel a little more confident with reading, except when I had to read outloud to the class. I especially did not enjoy popcorn reading because it was difficult for me to keep up with other students during the readings. I prefered to read on my own or in very small groups. Overall, popcorn reading was a negative experience for me because not knowing when it was my turn to read stressed me out.
  • Fifth Grade

    Fifth Grade
In fifth grade I was taken out of one of my courses to be put into a small class to help students with their reading and writing skills. I realized that I wasn't the best reader or writer but I didn't know just how far behind I really was. Overall, this is a positive experience because I could feel the growth that this class was helping me with.
  • High School

    High School
In high school, I started to feel much better about my skills. I was able to complete large writing projects fairly quickly and with very few mistakes. I started taking Honors and AP courses and my writing/reading skills did not get in the way of my success. This was a positive experience for me because I felt like I was finally on grade level with my piers.
  • College

    College
When I was a freshman in college, I didn't realize how much writing I would have to do for each and every course I was taking. Not only was content much harder, but so was the overall work load. I had to write multiple papers a week along with studying content. I think this was a positive experience because I was pushed to write more and more and got better at it.
  • College Ethics

    College Ethics
I had these one course at towson where the work load was way too much. I to this day, have not seen any course that required the amount of writing that this one did. Not only was it a lot of writing, but the professor wanted us to only write about his own opinions in class. This course was a course that should have been left open for interpretation but I had to write from my professor's perspective. I really did not like this course because it felt like I wasn't being true to my own opinions.
  • College SPED

    College SPED
When I started taking 400 level courses for my major, I started to really enjoy my projects and what I was writing about. I was learning how to write things like Individualized Education Programs and other sorts of documents. I think this was a positive experience because I started to see what I was capable of in my future work field.
