    Caterpillar Expands

    Caterpillar continues to expand from 40 acres to 64 acres to over 80 acres of eventual land, factory and offices.

  • Caterpillar Co. expands factory to cover 40 acres of offices and factories just across the Illinois River from Peoria's downtown.

    Caterpiller begins to expand on it's one property in the East Peoria Levee district in 1914. They finished construction of six more buildings that consumed over 40 acres of land.

  • Caterpillar demos old buildings.

    Caterpillar removes several factories and officies from their 40 acre lot. Begin to move factories out of town into new properties in Mossville and Chicago suburbs.

  • Clean up

    Caterpillar and the City of East Peoria signed an agreement to clean up the property making it safe for future development.

  • City of East Peoria buys Property

    The City of East Peoria purchaces over 60 acres of unused and abandoned Caterpillar property. They begin to bring in outside developers and city planners to strategically use the landscape.

  • Welcome Cullinan Properties

    Cullinan Properties gets selected to develop the newly acquired land for a new East Peoria Downtown.

  • Library

    A new, $7 million, Fundulac District Library passes referendum for new facility which will be located in the new East Peoria Downtown.

  • Groundbreaking

    Dirt is removed for a ceremonious groundbreaking on the new property.

  • Bass Pro

    Bass Pro Shops upon just a few miles from the Levee District attracting other major corporations to invest in the land.

  • Cotsco Wholesale

    Costco Wholesale becomes first major buisness to invest in the new East Peoria Downtown

  • The Levee District is born

    City council approves new name for East Peoria Downtown. Thus, the Levee District is born.

  • Super Target

    Super Target grabs the next major lot. Opens their doors for the public. The store also includes a Starbucks Coffee on the inside of the shopping center.

  • Holiday Inn

    Holiday Inn and Johnny's Italian Steakhouse open up on the corner of the Levee district. First residential/living space created.

  • Read More Books.

    Fondulac Library opens brand new facility off Washinton St. directly in the heart of The Levee District.
