    Massachusetts passes a law making all grades of public school open free of charge. This made is possible for all children to go to school no matter what their family's financial situation was. Education began to flourish.
  • Maria Montessori

    She created a method of learning for children that was never explored before. She focused on child-led learning and sensory based teaching.

    NAEYC was Founded
    NAEYC focused on the improvement of quality of educational services for children birth - 8 years old. It acts on behalf of the child's needs and rights in an educational setting.
  • Brown v. Brown Board of Education

    Brown v. Brown Board of Education
    A Supreme Court case that ruled that "separate but equal" public facilities, which included schools was deemed unconstitutional. This began the end of segregation. All children, white, black, etc deserve to have the same educational opportunities. Not one race should be valued over another for any reason.

    This began preschool for children in preparation for kindergarten. It began as a summer program for low-income children to quickly become ready for the start of elementary school. It has since evolved into a widely known program that many children have attended.

This offers children IEP's, proper evaluations, etc while being inside the classroom with their "typical" peers. IDEA offers the same opportunity for all children.

    Standardized testing is implemented to enable federal funding to "reward" those schools that are able to accrue those high test scores. However, it does allow the schools to intervene if the child isn't testing proficiently.
