    Bacon organized an expedition against the Indians. This was denounced by the governor but because the public liked this he was forced to accept it and give Bacon a commission. Later Berkeley again denounced Bacon’s activities as rebellious and launched several military expeditions against Bacon and the 60 or so colonists who had followed him in retaliatory raids on the Native Americans. Bacon managed to seize control of the government for a time.
