    From 1800s-1810 the dress of this time were, cut to end under the bust thereby achieving a high waist that defined the silhouette. Necklines were predominantly low. Sleeves could be long or short. The dress in the back and shoulder seams that were placed to form a diamond shape, was typical of this period.

    In the 1940s it was a gothic era, the fashion changed with wilted drooping ringlets and dragging skirts. Sleeves lost thier fullness and becamw fitted. Colors shifted to a darker tone and a solid color fabrics were more in tune with the new solemnity.

    The zipper was used to to close the space between a shoes clasps on one side to the attachment on the other. Zippers were fisted used for boots and tobacco pouches. The the militart used it for flying suits and money belts. The zipper was added to clothing in the 1914s.

    In the 1950s dresses became round, with a ballerina length hems and cinched waists for a delicate, feminine hourglass look. Many dresses were constucted with jeweled or peter pan collars. Cocktail dresses were also invited in this time (short version of ball gowns)
