Land surveyor and future Michigan Senator, Lucius Lyons surveys land in Michigan Territory, including what will become Otsego. Lyons wrote, "The timber is beech, sugar, maple, oak, ash, lynn, black walnut, with ironwood,..Everything considered, this township may well be designated first rate."
