Anywhere from 38000 B.C to 13,000 B.C was when dogs were domesticated. Most scientist believe dogs were domesticated in Europe, but it is very possible that they were domesticated in Asia too.

10,000 BC A human in northern Israel is buried cradling a puppy. This is the first sign of a close relationship between dogs and humans.

Around 12,000 to 10,000 B.C. While there is little evidence of what dogs did in Native American society we know they were in it.

While there are many species of Dog that have gone extinct we have choosen three intereseting ones.
Alpine Mastiff- predecessor to the Saint Brenard.
Dogo Cubano- Used in Cuba to capture runaway slaves, after slavery was abolished there was no need for the dog and it went slowly extinict.
Wawaiin Poi Dog- Used as a source of food and as a siritual protector of children the Poi became extinct as the native religion was abadoned and eating dog became unfashionable. Named after the root it ate. -
Old Uses- Pulling Loads.
Still used- Hunting, Hearding, assisting police and military, protection, companionship.
New Uses- Bomb and drug sniffing, aid dogs (seeing eye dogs). -
Dogs only sweat glands are locted bwtween their paw pads. A Dog can exert 150-200 lbs per sq inch with their bite. The U.S has the largest dog population in the world.

The American Kennel Club was founded. The organization maintians pedigree registration and promotes and hosts events relating to dogs.

The first school, The Seeing Eye, was established to train dogs as seeing eye dogs.
