    Wilhelm Roentgen accidentally discovered X-rays in radiation experiments with cathode rays ( electrons). He realizes that the rays can penetrate opaque black paper wrapped around a cathode ray tube , causing a form that shines with fluorescence. Their discovery revolutionized physics and medicine, which earned him the first Nobel Prize in Physics in 1901 .
