    Charles Grimes, Surveyor General of New South Wales, is believed to be the 1st European to explore the Yarra River. He led his survey party on a river expedition to the Yarra Falls (Dights Falls) area in 1803 reporting unfavourably on the prospects of settling there.

    The weir was upgraded in 1895 for the Melbourne Flour Milling Company

    In 1839, John Dight, a flour miller previously based in Campell Town, New South Wales, purchased a block of land next to the falls

    There was construction work on the weir this is the first of 3 times

    The weir was in construction in 1940

    The owner of the land moved and started to live in port Phillip bay

    This is the last time the weir will be under construction

    A fish ladder was built as many people realised the mil and weir was a bid obstacle for fish to migrate

  • The replacement of the weir

    undertaken works from the end of 2010 to replace the weir and construct a new fishway

    There were floods in 2013 that quite a bit of damage but luckily no one died.
