Digital Technology

  • Prelim

Camera I decided to use the JVC camera (rather than a camera phone) as it allowed me to create better quality images throughout the prelim. The images look especially clear when there are close ups of the actors.

Final Cut Pro Using FCP gave me the creativity and freedom to choose what angles I wanted the characters to be seen in. For example, when the 'tramp' walks into the cafe, I chose to put a mid shot of the boy on the FCP timeline instead of a mid shot of the tramp, to show the boy's reaction.
  • Swede

Internet Because I had not seen the film, I used the Internet to research the plot of the film and afterwards, using YouTube, I found what clips I wanted to include my swede; allowing creative decisions to be made regarding what I wanted to be filmed and what would be easiest to film.
  • The Breakfast Club remake

Internet To make our remake as real and as close to the original as I possibly could, I used Google to try and look for a word-by-word script to help one of our actors to do the voiceover that is heard in the original film.

Motion Throughout the whole process, Motion allowed me to be the most creative as this was the software used to create the two idents seen before the opening begins. It gave us a vast option of fonts, colours and animations to use. In the end, I opted for an orange square-like animation with orange text to go with it.

Camtasia For one of my evaluation questions, I used Camtasia to help me visually explain and annontate my teen opening. Because Camtasia allows two-four things to be shown on-screen at the same time, I could creatively and easily compare the ident I created to a real life ident.
  • Remake of a section from a real music video

Final Cut Pro Using FCP to edit the remake of the music video allowed me to play around with the filters (a convention of music videos (obvious edits)). I decided to use a saturation filter throughout the remake as it brought what was on screen to life,

Final Cut Pro Like the remake, FCP allowed me to freely play around with filters and transitions, that suited the rock/indie genre, to create my fake music video. One video filter I used was the earthquake filter for when the music got a bit 'grittier' and louder.

Digital Camera For the argument scenes, a digital camera was used to film rather than the normal JVC camera used in the past, and this was because I wanted to show a slight difference in quality to show the difference between what was in the past and what was in the present.
  • Ancillary Products

Photoshop Photoshop was the biggest creative piece of digital technology used for the ancillary products because, like FCP, there was a range of filters and ways of manipulation to create our individual products. Once I got a background off the Internet, I changed the orientation of the image, added a black and white filter then inverted those colours to create a unique background, which eventually created synergy across my ancillary products.

Powtoon I used Powtoon many times to explain my research and theory findings, such as Goodwin's theories. I used Powtoon rather than Prezi and Powerpoint, because I felt it looked nicer and was more creative than the other two.
