Dickinson County Court House

  • First Courthouse

    In 1857, the first courthouse was constructed as a 24 x 30 foot log building. Located about a half a mile north of the present courthouse.

    Construction of courthouse was interrupted by a threat of another Indian attack.

    During a singing school event there was an unexpected fire. The cause of the fire was never determined.

    The building was cleared off site to start the building of the third courthouse

    Construction began in September 1890.

    Basement was completed; two cell-jail was added on in the SE corner.

    A cannon barrel from WW1 was donated.

  • Replica of Statue of Liberty

    A replication of the Statue of Liberty was given to the courthouse by boy scouts troop #169.
  • Expansion to Courthouse

    Expanded on the west side.

    An elevator was added in the SW corner of the courthouse, adjoining the 1957 and 1973 additions.
  • 1891 Courthouse

    State Fire Marshall issued building code citations for the 1891 courthouse.
  • New Courthouse Plan

    After three failed attempts, a referendum passed for a new $14.9 million courthouse/jail.
  • Courthouse #4 Construction

    Construction began on the fourth courthouse. Located on the same site as the one chosen in 1859.
  • Courthouse Completed

    The new Dickinson County Courthouse is completed. Followed by a dedication ceremony.
