    When Vicki arrived at the library for work in the freezing morning the first thing she did was go to the back room and turned the heater on. A few minutes later she heard noises from the library drop box. When Vicki looked in the drop box she found Dewey in the corner of it.

    The story in the Spencer Daily Reporter not only got deweys story out, but also brought many more visiters to the library through out the years. About a week before this date untill today Dewey was getting introduced to staff and visitors at the library. Thanks to the library's open roomy space Dewey could stay, and even people with cat allergies could visit the library without a problem.

    This event lasted longer than one year.
    Dewey has always loved kids, but two in particular were his favorite Jodi, and Crystal. Jodi is Vicki's daughter Dewey and her had a very strong friendship all his life. Crystal was a disabled girl that visited the library often. Crystal was about eleven and she had very little control of her limbs, and didn't vocalize usually. When Dewey sat in her lap the first time they connected and when around Dewey Crystal began to vocalize and was happier.

    Sometime in May the Spencer Public Library started to be remodled. When they started repainting Dewey found his interest for the next eighteen years hights. After this Dewey spent his time when there were no visitors on top of the book shelves or the lighting.
  • Dewey runs away

    After the remodeling of the library finished and after Dewey returned from the three weeks he spent at Vicki's (author of the book and owner of Dewey) house during the unsafe remodeling time he suddenly fell in love with the library's lobby. About a week later when Dewey didn't come for his morning meal and the staff couldn't find him in his usual hiding places Vicki new something wasn't right. Three or four days later Jean (a worker at the library) found him under a car on Grand Avenue.

    Dewey has an article in Country magazine
    Country magazine is a national magazine that has a circulation of more than Five million. Dewey had an article in the June/July 1990 issue. They featured a two-page, full-color article about Dewey Readmore Books from the Spencer Public Library.
  • Dewey on the radio?

    On June seventh Paul Harvey broadcasted a story on The Rest of the Story. He told of how Dewey came to the Library, and how he's famous around the world. People would visit Dewey from different states and once in a while other countries. Now Dewey was getting more and more popular.
  • Dewey goes to Japan

    In early 2003 Tokyo e-mailed Washington D.C. because they wanted to film Dewey for a documentary about cats. The filmakers discovered Dewey from a Japanese magazine called Nekobiyori. Dewey's part was in the Working Cat part of the movie though the whole movie was in Japanese with less than five words in english in Dewey's part.

    At the age of eighteen Dewey was an elderly cat. Around this time he started to lose his hearing. Though his pickyness for food did decrease a bit. Dewey started eating Arby's Beef'n Cheddar sandwiches which not only fatten him up a bit but his constipation decreased dramaticly, hec ate more cat food, and even started drinking a full dish of water a day.
  • Dewey died on at age 19

    After Vicki took Dewey to the Vet because of his unusual behavior dewey was diagnosed with cancer. Dewey had a large tumor in his stomach that was pushing on his kidneys and intestines. That day they decided to put him down. Dewey Readmore Books died November 29, 2006 at the age of nineteen in the arms of Vicki Myron.
